Riverside police on Tuesday, May 6, released a photo of a newborn found abandoned near a trash bin in the hope that someone would come forward with information.
Police have been unable to identify the mother or who abandoned the baby at an apartment complex in a gated community in the 3800 block of Jackson Street.
The boy, only hours old, was found Sunday with his umbilical cord still attached.
“Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying anyone who may have been recently pregnant but is now without a newborn,” a news release said. “Our primary concern is locating the mother to ensure her own health and safety, and getting her any medical care or support she may need.”
The boy is healthy and being cared for at a hospital, police said.
Police would like to question the mother and ask anyone who believes they have information on the case to contact Detective Jessica Iniguez at 951-353-7121 or JIniguez@RiversideCA.gov
Information may be left anonymously through the Riverside Police Department’s “Atlas 1” mobile app, which offers a secure “Send a Message” feature. The app is available for download on both Apple and Android devices.
