Principal Bernie Torres welcomed eager children onto campus early Monday. Meanwhile, many parents walked their kids to school — a welcome change from years of them attending schools outside the neighborhood, often by bus.
A similar first-day scene played out across the Riverside Unified School District, which welcomed students back Monday for the 2025-26 school year.
Other Inland Empire school districts also are reconvening.
On Monday, students also returned in the Hemet, Murrieta Valley and Rialto school districts. Pomona schools will start Tuesday, Aug. 12, while Temecula Valley campuses reopen Wednesday, Aug. 13.
Some students starting going back last week, including those in the Colton Joint, Corona-Norco, Ontario-Montclair, Redlands and San Bernardino City unified school districts.
