La Sierra University’s 17th annual Archaeology Discovery Weekend, featuring lectures, cultural exhibits and family activities, will be held Nov. 15-16 on the university’s campus in Riverside.

Theme of this year’s event is “Alexander the Great and How He Changed the World.” Admission is free with registration.

The weekend’s lectures, on Nov. 15 and 16, will cover how Alexander the Great reshaped the ancient world, from politics, geography and natural history to art, culture and everyday life.

There will be a variety of activities Nov. 16, including a kids’ dig from 2 to 4 p.m. Interactive lab activities inside the Lawrence T. Geraty and Douglas R. Clark Center for Near Eastern Archaeology, running from 4 to 6 p.m., will include name-writing in Greek, pottery puzzles, 3D scanning, mosaic making, a 3D C.A.V.E. and more, plus a screening of “Night at the Museum,” according to a news release

Outside the archaeology center, a tent will offer Middle Eastern refreshments andconversation as well as singing and dancing to Bedouin songs with Jordanian visitors, according to the news release.

Lectures are scheduled 3-6 p.m. Nov. 15 and 1-4 p.m. Nov. 16 in the Troesh Conference Center at the university’s Zapara School of Business. On Nov, 15, there will also be an evening reception with guests from Madaba, Jordan, according to the news release.

The lecture schedule includes Andrea M. Berlin of Boston University speaking on “The Alexander Effect: An Archaeology of Celebrity”; Kent Bramlett of La Sierra University, presenting “Alexander and the Great Cultural Exchange”; and Rachel Kousser of the City University of New York, presenting “Living Like a Persian King: How Alexander Transformed Everyday Life.”

There will be panel discussions following each day’s presentations, offering audiences an opportunity to interact with the speakers.
