Downtown Riverside will see a new valet parking program in the new year.
The Riverside City Council unanimously approved the six-month pilot program for $334,595 this week. It will be run by ACE PARKING III, LLC, of San Diego.
Starting Jan. 1 and ending June 30, the program will charge $20 per vehicle and $30 during special events.
It will initially run Fridays through Sundays, with the hours of operation yet to be determined.
The valet parking locations have not yet been finalized, but sites under discussion include the Fox Performing Arts Center, Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture and the Riverside Convention Center.
The program would have valet attendants offering parking and daily event information.
Riverside officials said Tuesday, Nov. 4, that the program would generate $144,000 in revenue, but officials estimated that won’t be enough to break even and the program could potentially lose $190,595.
The city hopes to improve parking in downtown and support more weekend businesses through the program, a city report states. The goal is to make parking easier and more accessible, especially when downtown is busy.
The program will include a text-based ticketless system and a traditional paper ticket system. Valets will park customers’ cars in designated areas that are yet to be determined. Vehicles can be delivered to any public valet stand in downtown Riverside, according to the report.
The Riverside City Council expects to review how the program is doing at the midway point. There would also be an update at the end of the six-month trial period. Depending on the outcome, two one-year extensions could be enacted.
