The Inland Empire came together Monday, Jan. 20, to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, with events that included a walk through Riverside.

Riverside-area residents joined for the 30th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Walk-A-Thon, which featured the walk but also inspiring words.

This event was one of many across the Inland region honoring the legacy of the slain civil rights leader.

In Redlands, the University of Redlands is hosting a week of events to honor King. They include a luminaria ceremony planned on campus Tuesday, Jan. 21, and a virtual-reality experience exploring King’s “I Have a Dream” speech the same day. An MLK Peace Walk is scheduled to start at the university Thursday, Jan. 23.

Highland recognized the holiday Monday with the 45th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast, hosted by Inland Empire African American Churches.
