The community is invited to line the streets in Riverside County on Monday afternoon, May 5, to give a final salute to a 22-year-old local Marine who died in a vehicle rollover in New Mexico while on deployment to the U.S. border.
Lance Cpl. Albert A. Aguilera of Riverside, a combat engineer with the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, was deployed as part of the Joint Task Force-Southern Border, the command overseeing the troop deployment at the U.S. border with Mexico following President Donald Trump’s order in January.
Aguilera died on April 15, when the vehicle he was in plummeted down a 10-foot ditch along a road while traveling in a caravan to El Paso, Texas. Another Marine, Lance Cpl. Marcelino M. Gamino of Fresno, also a combat engineer in the same unit, was also killed. A third Marine in the vehicle was injured.
Aguilera’s body is scheduled to arrive at the Ontario Airport Monday afternoon and a procession is expected to head out at 4:45 p.m. to take his remains to a mortuary in Menifee.
The route will travel from the airport to the Evans-Brown Mortuary in Menifee. The procession will first go right on East Airport Drive, left onto North Archibald Avenue, then onto the 10 freeway heading east to the 15 freeway going south, then to the 60 freeway, and then to the 215 South. The vehicles will exit at McCall Boulevard, go left to Encanto Drive, and end at the mortuary, where a brief ceremony will be held.
Organizers with Honoring Our Fallen, a nonprofit that helps military families deal with the loss of their loved ones and works with civilians and military officials, are asking that people line the streets with flags to pay their respects to Aguilera.
