In the new year, there’s been a spate of restaurant openings here in the Inland Empire.
In San Bernardino, Taqueria Los Agaves has closed, and another Mexican food restaurant has taken its place.
Tacos Puro Jalisco is the latest restaurant to occupy 145 E. Highland Ave., probably best known to locals as the longtime home of Long John Silver’s which closed in 2018.
The restaurant is part of a chain that also has locations in Pomona and Corona, as well as Fullerton.
The restaurant specializes in birria, offering typical Mexican fare, including tacos, burritos, tortas, mulitas and quesadillas.
Menudo is available daily.
Hours are 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday, 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday, and 7 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday.
In Riverside, Blue Burro has opened in the University Village at 1201 University Ave., Suite 109B.
The location was most recently Primos Mexican Food & Cantina.
The chain offers Mexican food staples including burritos, tacos and quesadillas, but also offers salads and loaded fries, along with aguas frescas — including a blue horchata — and shakes in a variety of flavors.
Breakfast burritos are available all day.
Hours are 9 a.m.-10 p.m. daily.
Also open in Riverside’s University Village is Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co.
As the name suggests, the shop specializes in hot and iced beverages made with Yemeni coffee.
The shop also offers a selection of pastries.

Hours are 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-midnight Friday and Saturday.
Over in Rialto, Baqba Mexican Grill has opened in the Renaissance Marketplace.
The restaurant offers Chipotle-style burritos, tacos, bowls and quesadillas.
Hours are 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m.-11:30 p.m.
Baqba is at 1165 W. Renaissance Parkway, Suite 410, formerly home to Chop Stop.
A new Wienerschnitzel has opened in The Preserve at Chino, 15713 Euclid Ave.
The hot dog chain has extended its January “Wiener Wednesday” deal of four chili dogs for $4 on Wednesdays through the end of this month.
Hours are 8 a.m.-1 a.m. daily.
Also new in Chino is West Coast Sourdough.
The sandwich, soup and salad purveyor is at 4521 Philadelphia St., Suite A200.
The chain also has a location in Norco.
Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
Goodbye, I Like Pie
Sadly, one of our favorite Inland Empire dessert shops is closing.
Citing the cost of doing business in California, I Like Pie Bakeshop owner Annika Corbin announced the bakery’s imminent closure on social media last week.
The shop closed its Pasadena location on Sunday, and will close its Claremont location on Sunday, Feb. 23.
The shop is no longer taking pre-orders, and has been selling out daily since the announcement.
For now, I Like Pie is at 175 N. Indian Hill Blvd., Suite 102B.

Sorry, we’re closed
The remaining San Bernardino Jimmy John’s has closed.
According to online reports, the shop, 1060 E. Harriman Place, Unit C-5, closed after 10 years when the restaurant’s lease was not renewed.
