Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino will hold its fifth annual Can Tree Wonderland, this year themed “NY Rockin’ Christmas,” noon-2 p.m. Dec. 13 at its warehouse, 2950 Jefferson St., Riverside.
The community event and fundraiser is intended to boost awareness of food insecurity during the holiday season, while offering a creative competition, according to a news release.
The event starts with a building and decorating competition with holiday trees made from canned goods. Groups can use holiday décor to create a themed tree, a classic Christmas display or an eclectic design. Once trees are completed, the event opens for public viewing, complete with Santa and a New York City skyline.
Attendees are invited to view the can trees and vote for their favorites.
The event includes opportunities for photos with Santa in front of the New York City skyline backdrop, and Mamma Mia will provide complimentary New York-style pizza slices.
There will also be a gingerbread house contest, with participants building mini gingerbread houses from cardboard.
The event is free, but donations are encouraged to support Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino’s mission to alleviate food insecurity across the Inland Empire.
“The holiday season is tough on families struggling with food insecurity, and this event lifts our community members’ spirits, brings people together and provides food and funds for hunger relief during the holidays when needs are higher,” Carolyn Fajardo, chief executive officer of Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino, said in the news release.
