Millikan’s unbeaten girls soccer team defeated Huntington Beach 2-1 in the championship match of the Best in the West tournament on Saturday at Bolsa Grande High.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Lee scored in the second half for the Oilers (4-2-2), who trailed the Rams (9-0-1)1-0 at halftime.
In the semifinals, USC committed senior Jaiden Anderson and sophomore Solana Van Enoo scored goals for Huntington Beach in a 2-0 win against Surf League rival and host Newport Harbor.
“We are doing a great job offensively as a team and little by little working on improving our back line,” Oilers coach Raul Ruiz said.
In the third-place match, host Newport Harbor defeated Oaks Christian 2-1 on goals by sophomore Natalie McCarty and senior Abbi Clapp. The assists were by Kylie Lopez and Sadie Hoch, respectively.
Oaks Christian entered the week ranked third in CIF-SS Division 1 behind Santa Margarita and Los Alamitos.
