
Six Orange County boys basketball games were placed in Division I for the CIF Southern California Regional playoffs.
Two advanced Round II.
JSerra won at home, 80-56 over San Marcos in Round I on Tuesday. BJ Davis Ray scored 25 points and Dominic Bolton scored 24 points on eight 3-pointers for JSerra.
The Lions (23-10) will be home again Thursday against Carlsbad (26-6). JSerra beat Carlsbad 91-77 in tournament play on Dec. 28. Carlsbad beat Orange County’s Los Alamitos and Mater Dei this season.
Los Alamitos beat San Diego’s Cathedral Catholic 84-72 on Tuesday in Round I at Los Alamitos. Balanced scoring has been a staple all season for the CIF Southern Section Division 1 champion Griffins and it was again on Tuesday. Tyler Lopez scored 17 points, Trent Minter scored 16 points, Samori Guyness scored 15 points, Wes Trevino scored 11 points and Kedric Delaney scored 10.
The Griffins (26-8) play at Redondo Union (26-5) in Round II on Thursday.
Orange County teams that lost in Tuesday’s Round I: CIF-SS 2AA champion Fairmont Prep lost to Carlsbad 59-55; Pacifica Christian lost to Redondo 77-54; Crean Lutheran lost to Mira Costa 61-48; and Santa Margarita lost to Torrey Pines 66-59.
Irvine lost to Francis Parker in San Diego in a Division II Round I game. Irvine’s Cooper Stearns scored 25 points.
Sage Hill lost at home to Birmingham of Van Nuys 56-48 in Round I on Tuesday in Division III.
Pacifica advanced to Division IV’s Round II with a 55-50 road win over Maranatha Christian of San Diego on Tuesday. Anthony Smith scored 17 points and Myles Salas added 10 points for Pacifica. The Mariners (22-11) will play at Grant (18-14) in Los Angeles on Thursday.
Santiago lost at home to Bernstein of Hollywood 59-47 in a Division IV Round I game Tuesday.
Saddleback lost on the road to Pacific Ridge of Carlsbad 65-48 in Round I of Division V on Tuesday.
All Round II games are at 7 p.m. The SoCal Regional continues with Regional semifinals on Saturday. Regional finals are May 11 at home-school sites.
Southern California Regional and Northern California Regional champions meet March 14 and 15 in the CIF State Championships in Sacramento.
