A 60-year-old man was badly injured after being assaulted on the sidewalk off Pacific Coast Highway in Corona del Mar. Police soon apprehended a suspect.
A motive for the attack Monday around noon wasn’t known.
When they arrived, Newport Beach police found the victim unconscious on the sidewalk on PCH nearest the ocean, close to Crystal Cove State Park. He was suffering from a laceration to the head and the effects of an apparent punch to the face, Newport Beach police Sgt. Steve Oberon said.
The victim was taken to a hospital. His condition was unknown on Tuesday afternoon.
Shortly after they got to the scene Monday, officers apprehended 28-year-old Steven Solis, of Santa Ana, who had fled but was nearby. He was taken into custody on suspicion of battery, elder abuse, being under the influence of a narcotic and obstructing a peace officer, Oberon said.
