A man is suspected of fatally stabbing his father Saturday, Sept. 27, in Riverside before barricading himself inside a home and later being taken into custody.

It occurred around 4:15 p.m. in the 3400 block of Bahia Place during a possible mental health crisis, according to Riverside Police Department spokesperson Officer Ryan Railsback.

The neighborhood is northeast of UC Riverside and south of Blaine Street.

The man who was stabbed was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and later died, Railsback said.

.The identities of the victim and suspect were not immediately made public. Railsback said the victim was in his 70s while the suspect is in his 30s.
