A motorist was killed after fatally striking a horse that had gotten loose in a semi-rural area of Jurupa Valley on Sunday evening, Sept. 24, authorities said.
Just before 9 p.m., the driver of a sedan was heading southbound along Van Buren Boulevard, near the intersection with 56th Street, when the driver collided with the horse that was in the roadway, said Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Deirdre Vickers. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the horse was also killed in the collision.
Information on the driver who died was not immediately available pending notification of family.
It was not immediately clear how the horse had gotten loose and the owner had not yet been located Sunday evening, authorities said. Animal control personnel were also called to the scene while authorities continued their investigation into the night.
