Redlands police warn of series of home burglaries – Press Enterprise

Redlands police are investigating a series of home burglaries on the city’s south side with similar characteristics.

The break-ins were reported primarily in that area of the city between March 26 and March 29, the Police Department said. The burglars typically smash a rear glass door to enter. At least twice, the power was shut off, disabling burglar alarms.

Expensive jewelry, including watches, were stolen, in the 1000 block of Fulbright Avenue, the 400 block of Lantern Crest Drive, the 1900 block of Fairmont Drive and the 700 block of West Sunset Drive.

Those tactics are similar to those seen elsewhere in Southern California that authorities blame on South American burglars who come to the United States on tourist visas with the intent of stealing from residents.

In other instances, those burglary tourists hide cameras in residents’ front yards to record the movements of neighbors in advance of breaking into those homes.
