The competition is on to find the best young scientists.
On Friday, Feb. 28, students from across Riverside County presented their scientific findings to judges as the Riverside County Science and Engineering Fair got underway.

They explored topics as varied as Chuck E. Cheese animatronics, the amount of fizz in bath bombs and mathematical equations that could predict mpox outbreaks, a Riverside County Office of Education news release states.
The fair at the Riverside Convention Center concludes Saturday, March 1, when the public can view projects between 9 a.m. and noon. An awards ceremony is scheduled to immediately follow.
The contest drew 490 students from public, charter and private schools. In all, they presented findings from 352 projects spanning 22 categories from biochemistry and electrical engineering to physics and plant science, the release states.
In neighboring San Bernardino County, students will compete in a regional science fair Thursday, March 6, at Cal State San Bernardino. They take part in the San Bernardino, Inyo, Mono Counties Science and Engineering Fair, set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
An awards ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Friday, March 14, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Ontario.
